The Indefinite Article : THE
The indefinite article is used before a noun which is made definite by the context, a clause or a phrase.
Context
A – We were fed up with the war
War is never a good thing.
B – Tell me the truth.
I am for truth, against falsehood.
C – The dogs wouldn’t let him come near the house.
Dogs are faithful animals. A clause
NB : all clauses are written in blue.
A – The book I bought this morning are for you
.
I am fond of books.
B – The toys lying on the table belong to little Jimmy.
Children like toys.
C – I was astonished by the courage he showed in that situation.
Courage is a noble virtue.
A phrase beginning with : of, in, with,...or any other preposition
A – The teachers in this forum are kind
